Updated:How Friars conclude the Regular – Season

At Alumni Hall in Providence, Rhode Island, on March 2, the Providence College women’s basketball team lost 65-42 to No. 10/10 UConn to wrap up the regular season. The Huskies improved to 26-5 (18-0 BIG EAST), while the Friars fell to 12-19 overall (6-12 BIG EAST).

1ST QUARTER:
• The game was tied, 10-10, at the 6:20 mark before the Huskies went on an 11-0 run during a five-minute span (21-11).
• Olivia Olsen halted the Friars’ scoring drought with a free-throw and Grace Efosa cashed in on a tough drive to the hoop to close the gap to 21-13 at intermission.
• Efosa scored seven of the Friars’ 13 points in the first quarter.

2ND QUARTER:
• The second quarter was scoreless until Aaliyah Edwards converted a lay-up for UConn at the 6:43 mark (23-13).
• UConn outscored Providence 16-3 in the quarter overall, including a 14-1 run over the final 5:27.
• The Friars trailed 37-16 at halftime.
• Providence shot just 5-26 from the field in the first half (.192), while UConn hit 15-32 field-goal attempts (.469).

3RD QUARTER:
• Connecticut pushed its lead to 25 midway through the third quarter (45-20).
• The Huskies outscored Providence 20-9 in the third to carry a 57-25 advantage into the fourth.

4TH QUARTER:
• The Friars started the fourth quarter on a 9-0 run through the first 4:27 of play (57-34).
• Providence outscored Connecticut 17-8 in the fourth quarter to make the final, 65-42.

• Marta Morales Romero paced the Friars with 10 points and was the only player from PC in double figures.
• Efosa finished with eight points and six boards.

WHAT’S NEXT:

• The Friars will head to Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. to begin BIG EAST Tournament action (March 8-11). The Friars will face Butler in the First Round at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 8. The Friars and Bulldogs split the season series, with each team picking up a win on the road.
