Minnesota Vikings schedule 2022: Opponents, release date, strength of schedule, and more

Similar to the Senior Bowl, the Shrine Bowl serves as a yearly opportunity for aspiring NFL Draft prospects to showcase their abilities.

Having been held consistently since 1925, this year’s edition is scheduled to happen at the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, situated at the Dallas Cowboys’ team facilities. Patrick Hill, an assistant coach from the Vikings, has secured a position for the upcoming event, where he will be coaching the defensive line for the West team.

Vikings Assistant Coach Lands Gig for Shrine Bowl

In 2023, Hill became a part of the Vikings coaching staff, marking his inaugural season coaching at the NFL level. Before joining the Vikings, he served as a defensive analyst at LSU during the 2022 season. During that time, he coached Jay Ward and Jaquelin Roy, both of whom were chosen by the Vikings in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Hill will be operating under the guidance of head coach Mike Kafka, who currently serves as the offensive coordinator for the New York Giants. Leading the defense for the West team is Tem Lukabu, who holds the position of linebackers coach with the Carolina Panthers.

There are a number of intriguing NFL prospects attending the Shrine Bowl this year that Hill will get to coach. The interior defensive line players on the West team at the event will be as follows:

  • Logan Lee (Iowa)
  • Jordan Miller (SMU)
  • Myles Murphy (North Carolina)
  • Nathan Pickering (Mississippi State)
  • Justin Rogers (Auburn)

And here is the list of EDGE players for the West roster:

  • Sundiata Anderson (Grambling State)
  • Solomon Byrd (USC)
  • Javontae Jean-Baptiste (Notre Dame)
  • Trajan Jeffcoat (Arkansas)
  • Zion Tupuola-Fetui (Washington)

Among this group, Justin Rogers from Auburn stands out as one of the most intriguing draft prospects for the Vikings. The defensive lineman, who initially played three seasons at Kentucky, made a transfer to Auburn in 2023. In his lone season with the Tigers, Rogers accumulated 17 tackles, two tackles for loss, and  a sack.

Standing at 6’3″ and weighing almost 350 pounds, he is an imposing nose tackle capable of overpowering interior offensive linemen with significant strength. Given the Vikings’ requirements on the defensive line in the current offseason, Rogers could be a prospect worth monitoring.

While Hill is working at the Shrine Bowl, another Vikings assistant has a role at the Senior Bowl in a couple weeks. That coach is Daronte Jones, who will be the defensive coordinator for the National Team.
