UPDATED: A journalist has shared a concerning update about Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace fans: Have your say on the season so far - BBC Sport

There was a last-minute issue with the agreement between Blackburn and Crystal Palace for Adam Wharton last night.

Andy Bayes of BBC Sport Lancashire says that.

What then become of the Adam Wharton contract? Let’s examine this.

Adam Wharton deal almost collapsed

According to Bayes, the arrangement nearly fell through on Wednesday night, but everything appears to be back on track as of right now.

Wharton had already had his physical with Crystal Palace following this week’s agreement to pay Blackburn £22 million.

“The latest, as I understand it, is that the Wharton transfer came close to collapse last night,” said Bayes on X, formerly known as Twitter.

That affected prospective hires at Blackburn indirectly. It looks like the Wharton deal is back on track and almost done, so Blackburn may resume hiring.

Even though things are again back on track, this is still a highly concerning development.

Would have been a nightmare for Crystal Palace

If the Wharton agreement had fallen through last night, Crystal Palace would have been in for a nightmare.

At least Birmingham No. 19 appears to be the alternate that is being considered. Jordan James, even though it would have been terrible if he had collapsed at that time.

Since Crystal Palace has already demonstrated their interest in the transfer market by offering £22 million for Wharton, other teams that would prefer not to lose a valuable player on deadline day may legitimately ask for more than £20 million.

Dougie Freedman would have had to waste time signing a replacement if the deal with Blackburn had fallen through instead of going for a forward, who currently appears to be our first priority with West Ham No. 17 Maxwel Cornet on the radar.

It can be a hectic deadline day, so be sure to keep a watch on events at Selhurst Park.
