Trevor Chalobah, a defender for Chelsea, is reportedly on the verge of leaving on loan this month, giving West Ham United a big advantage in their pursuit of him.

The Hammers, whose restricted transfer activity has been caused by their tight budget, are relieved by this development.

The Hammers and Chalobah have been connected for a number of weeks, so it was only logical to assume that they would act if they could get rid of defender Nayef Aguerd.

Nevertheless, regardless of Aguerd’s future, the Irons may be considering bringing in the 24-year-old as Chelsea is now willing to approve a loan deal.

The addition of Chalobah would significantly strengthen West Ham’s defense, which has made mistakes this year. In addition to offering much-needed security at the back, the big and powerful defender’s versatility would give David Moyes much-needed tactical options.

But there are some worries about Chalobah as well. The English international has not played for Chelsea this season after being sidelined since August due to a hamstring issue. It would be challenging to send him to West Ham on loan if he is still not fully fit.

Furthermore, Chalobah is a target for Fulham and Nottingham Forest. It’s more likely that both teams will give him regular playing time.

Although there would be little danger for West Ham in a loan agreement, the Blues are reportedly requesting a buy-in clause. Should this prove to be true, the Hammers may lose out on the deal.

Though there are still a lot of obstacles to be cleared before the transfer can be completed, West Ham’s interest in Chalobah is generally a good sign.

Chalobah will need to be persuaded of the Irons’ playing project, and they might also need to offer Chelsea a more desirable arrangement to sweeten the pot.
