The BC Lions have secured the services of two-time Division All-Star Marcus Sayles through 2025, as officially announced by the team on Saturday. The 29-year-old defensive back is set to embark on his fourth season with the Lions, having delivered a strong performance during the 2023 CFL campaign. Sayles contributed significantly with 45 tackles, seven pass breakups, one interception, and one fumble recovery. His impending free agency, scheduled for February 13, has been averted with this contract extension.

Sayles commenced his CFL journey with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2018, marking a noteworthy debut with a West All-Star selection and clinching the Grey Cup in his inaugural season in Canada. Prior to his CFL career, Sayles faced release from the Buffalo Bills in 2017, having signed as an undrafted free agent. Subsequently, he joined the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad for the remainder of that season.

In 2020, Sayles parted ways with the Blue Bombers to explore NFL opportunities. He signed with the Minnesota Vikings but was later waived to make room on the team’s 80-man roster. Sayles’ collegiate career unfolded at the Division II University of West Georgia, where he compiled an impressive record of 123 total tackles, 12 interceptions, 24 pass breakups, and a school-record 13 blocked kicks.

With a CFL career spanning 83 games, Sayles has amassed notable statistics, including 12 interceptions, seven forced fumbles, and four sacks. His extension with the BC Lions solidifies his commitment to the team, adding a seasoned and accomplished player to their defensive lineup for the coming years.
