The Chicago White Sox traded outfielder Dominic Fletcher to the Arizona Diamondbacks for prospect Cristian Mena, just after concluding a trade with the Seattle Mariners.

Dominic Fletcher, an outfielder for the Arizona Diamondbacks, was dealt to the Chicago White Sox on Saturday, the teams confirmed.

The White Sox had to surrender right-hand pitcher Cristian Mena, 21, to Arizona in order to obtain Fletcher. At the end of the previous season, Mena was listed as the White Sox’s No. 10 prospect in the farm system by MLB.com.

Fletcher, who just turned 26 in 2023, made his Major League Baseball debut.

The White Sox had just completed another transaction in which they sent right-handed reliever Gregory Santon to the Seattle Mariners in return for outfielder Zach DeLoach, pitcher Prelander Berroa, and the No. 69 choice in the 2024 draft.

During his 28 games with the Diamondbacks in the previous season, Fletcher batted.301 with two home runs, 14 RBI, a.791 OPS, and a 0.7 WAR. After accumulating 18 hits in his first 12 MLB games, he had an OPS of 1.231.

Fletcher’s roster position was lost due to a dip in the second half of May, and he was only given another opportunity when eventual NL Rookie of the Year Corbin Carroll was sidelined. In July, Fletcher was demoted back down to Triple-A Reno permanently, and he missed the rest of the season due to a finger injury in August.

The former second-round choice has a lifetime batting average of.295 and a minor league OPS of.840.

The White Sox have given their outfield much-needed organizational depth with Fletcher and the 25-year-old DeLoach. Gavin Sheets, a previous top prospect coming off back-to-back dismal seasons, is anticipated to challenge Fletcher for the starting right field position.

In contrast, Mena reached Triple-A by the end of 2023. The right-hander, who is only 21 years old, might not be too distant from joining Arizona’s major league team.
