Blues have entered the race with Huddersfield and Hull to sign Derby County winger Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, according to BBC reporter Alex Howell.

This isn’t the first Derby player Rooney is eyeing in January, he’s been reported to be interested in signing Eiran Cashin, Max Bird, Liam Thompson and Louie Sibley according to TeamTalk.

All four players made significant contributions under Rooney whilst he was Derby boss, with Cashin making his professional debut and Max Bird, Louie Sibley and Liam Thompson breaking into the first team consistently.

All three managers of the Championship clubs have links to Derby with Wayne Rooney currently in charge at Blues, Liam Rosenior in command at Hull and Darren Moore, a former Rams centre-back, leading Town.

Mendez-Laing has played under Moore during his time at Wednesday but left after largely playing as a wing-back at the Owls. He has also played under Rosenior who signed him at Pride Park in July 2022.

Mendez-Laing is out of contract next summer and has been in excellent form for Derby this season having registered 10 assists and scoring six goals in all competitions.
