The Timberwolves held a press conference on Friday afternoon to officially introduce guard Monte Morris, following the completion of a trade with the Detroit Pistons. Wolves president of operations Tim Connelly orchestrated the deal, sending small forward Troy Brown Jr., shooting guard Shake Milton, and a 2030 second-round pick to Detroit in exchange for Morris.

The acquisition of Morris addresses the team’s need for depth at the point guard position, providing support behind starting point guard Mike Conley. Morris is recognized for his ability to play off the ball and is known for his proficiency as a 3-point shooter.

A product of Iowa State University, Morris was traded from the Washington Wizards to the Pistons during the previous offseason. However, he has faced setbacks during the current season due to back and quad injuries, limiting his playing time to just six games.

In those appearances, Morris has averaged 4.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists. He acknowledged that he is still in the process of regaining full fitness and anticipates making his debut for the Wolves in their upcoming game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night.

Prior to joining the Pistons, Morris spent the early years of his professional career with the Denver Nuggets, where he was originally drafted by Connelly. His familiarity with Connelly’s leadership adds an extra layer of connection to his new team in Minnesota.
