These Indianapolis Colts players suffered big setbacks but could return with solid contributions in 2024.
A young Indianapolis Colts team was shaken up by injuries both before and during the 2023 season.
Notable players include cornerback Dallis Flowers (torn Achilles), tight end Jelani Woods (hamstring), and quarterback Anthony Richardson (AC joint sprain).
However, others were also impacted; some, like the previously mentioned Woods, were even prevented from seeing the pitch.

Daniel Scott | Safety
Former California safety Daniel Scott, chosen in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts, stands out for the considerable 661 special teams snaps he amassed during his college career. Despite being relatively mature for a rookie at 24 years old, he brings five years of valuable collegiate experience. Unfortunately, an ACL tear prevented him from taking the field in 2023. Looking ahead to 2024, Scott has a prime opportunity for a comeback, showcasing his skills.
Throughout his five years in the Pac-12 conference, Scott compiled impressive stats, including 207 tackles, 7 interceptions, and 3 forced fumbles. While he is likely to make an immediate impact on special teams, there’s also potential for him to serve as a crucial depth asset in the secondary, particularly as a free safety. Although an immediate start or extensive playing time may be unlikely, he possesses the capabilities to be featured in specific defensive sets if defensive coordinator Gus Bradley deems him a good fit. Scott’s presence will also intensify competition in a safety unit that could benefit from it.
Considering Nick Cross’s limited experience and Rodney Thomas II’s decline as a starter, there is uncertainty about starting them at free safety. Additionally, it remains undecided if strong safety Julian Blackmon will be retained, but his services could be valuable to the young secondary. Evan Hull | Running Back
In addition to Scott, Northwestern’s running back Evan Hull was chosen in the fifth round of the NFL Draft. Hull’s appeal lies in his exceptional elusiveness and adept receiving skills from the backfield. Over the 2021 and 2022 college seasons, Hull compiled 417 carries, accumulating 1,922 yards (4.6 avg), and securing 12 touchdowns. Equally noteworthy is his proficiency in pass-catching, amassing 88 receptions (55 in 2022) for 810 yards and an additional 4 scores.
Hull was widely regarded as one of the premier pass-catching running backs in the 2023 draft class, showcasing his abilities despite playing on a struggling Northwestern team where he essentially carried the offensive load. Unfortunately, his potentially promising rookie campaign was cut short after logging just 1 carry (1 yard) and a catch (6 yards) against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, suffering a torn meniscus early in the game.
Under Shane Steichen’s offensive scheme, Hull’s talents are expected to be maximized, particularly with a quarterback like Richardson who favors check-down throws. His adept receiving skills are anticipated to complement Jonathan Taylor well, potentially elevating Hull to a legitimate playmaker. Despite potential underestimation or overlooking, Hull’s potential is higher than some may recall, and he is determined to overcome the challenges of the offseason, aiming to showcase his skills on the field in the upcoming 2024 season.
Ashton Dulin | Wide Receiver
Entering his sixth NFL season in 2024, Ashton Dulin stands as the seasoned player on this roster.
Throughout his career, Dulin has primarily been utilized as a deep threat, amassing 33 receptions for 450 yards and 3 touchdowns. While his receiving statistics may not be star-studded, Dulin’s size and athleticism position him as a valuable asset in Indy’s offensive strategy when called upon.
Notably, Dulin has demonstrated proficiency in special teams, contributing 36 tackles (28 solo) and serving as a formidable force as a gunner when pursuing returners. Although his role as a special teamer remains unchanged as long as he remains healthy, Dulin’s primary position is as a receiver, and he likely aspires to make more significant contributions in that aspect.
The 2023 season presented an intriguing opportunity for Dulin with the arrival of offensive-minded coach Steichen and quarterback Richardson, factors that could have potentially led to career-best receiving numbers. Unfortunately, a torn ACL suffered in a joint practice with the Chicago Bears before the season commenced abruptly ended Dulin’s 2023 campaign, with no games played.
Despite often being overlooked in discussions about receiving depth and facing inconsistency in offensive contributions, Dulin has encountered various quarterbacks under center. Like many others on the Colts, he seeks stability in coaching and quarterback consistency.
