Three factors that made the Houston Texans season a huge success.

Texans star announces bold contract demand

The Houston Texans had a major season in 2023 but why was it a success?

The Houston Texans’ 2023 season proved to be a resounding success, and several factors contributed to this outcome. Despite initial expectations of a challenging year, where they were anticipated to perform poorly, the team achieved 10 victories, defying the projections.

While the team did not consistently exhibit greatness, facing some challenges and growing pains in certain weeks, the overall success was impacted by injuries. Injuries disrupted the team’s performance, delaying their playoff clinch, which could have occurred earlier if they had been healthier and more consistently effective.

Even though the season concluded with a defeat to the Baltimore Ravens in the second round, there is a high level of certainty in labeling the season as successful. Three key reasons underpin this success, despite the setbacks and challenges faced by the team.

C.J. Stroud emerged as franchise caliber quarterback.

The rise of C.J. Stroud as a franchise quarterback played a crucial role. While a team can be competitive without an exceptional quarterback, maintaining that level of performance consistently becomes more challenging. The Tennessee Titans serve as an example. Stroud establishing himself as the cornerstone quarterback was pivotal to the success of the team in 2023.

DeMeco Ryans and his coaching staff maximized talent once thought to be subpar

Individuals like Devin Singletary, Nico Collins, Jonathan Greenard, and Blake Cashman were not initially recognized as dynamic playmakers before 2023. However, under the guidance of DeMeco Ryans and his coaching staff, their potential was unleashed, providing them with the chance to thrive. While there were more players who experienced significant breakout seasons, these four were among our personal favorites.

Playoffs and an AFC South Championship

Achieving a winning season is commendable, but the NFL has a history of seasons filled with unpredictable outcomes. What sets this season apart is that it doesn’t seem like a mere fluke. The team didn’t stumble into a winning record or the playoffs; they earned their playoff spot by clinching the AFC South and convincingly defeating one of the top AFC teams. This success is evidence that the team is heading in a positive and sustainable direction.
