After waiting weeks for news on the transfer portal, the Tennessee Vols should finally get it.

Zalance Heard, an offensive tackle transfer from LSU, is anticipated to join Tennessee as a gateway addition, according to Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports.

Gerald Mincey, a Florida transfer who started for the Vols in 2022 and 2023, was lost to the transfer portal, and the team is in desperate need of an offensive tackle (Mincey has subsequently committed to Kentucky).

Heard, a former five-star prospect, participated in 12 games for LSU last season as a true freshman, making one start.

It is anticipated that Heard, a native of Monroe, Louisiana, will play left tackle for Tennessee in 2024, forcing John Campbell to switch to right tackle.

Campbell transferred from Miami to Tennessee and played left tackle for the Vols in the previous season. He seemed to be endorsing the position change when he uploaded a video earlier this week that looked to show the seasoned offensive lineman practicing from a right tackle stance.

The Vols still need the transfer portal to provide them with some more offensive line support. Tennessee has some possibilities already on the roster (Andrej Karic, Vysen Lang, etc.), but it would be prudent to try to land a potential upgrade from the portal given the left guard position is unresolved heading into the offseason.
