In Round 1, the Steelers hold pick, number twenty. They might also include wide receiver Calvin Austin, a 2022 fourth-round selection, in their deal.
Maybe this was Brandon Aiyuk’s last game with the 49ers.
The 49ers requested Jacksonville’s first-round pick (choice no. 17) and veteran wide receiver Zay Jones in exchange for Aiyuk, so the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are apparently interested in dealing for him, should be aware of the 49ers’ asking price. It seems that the Jaguars turned them down.
The Steelers, however, are suddenly intrigued as they require a starting split end to take Diontae Johnson’s spot after they traded him to the Carolina Panthers. and the Steelers’ own first-round selection, number 20. They might also include wide receiver Calvin Austin, a 2022 fourth-round selection, in their deal.
It appears that both teams would be happy with that deal package. The 49ers’ first-round pick, which the Steelers appear to covet and are willing to deal, is the main piece of the trade; perhaps they might ask the Steelers to add a few more draft picks.
In the event that the 49ers do deal Aiyuk to Pittsburgh for choice number 20, they may choose to replace Aiyuk with a later pick or select one of the best offensive linemen available. Aiyuk might be replaced by a wide receiver.
The 49ers might view this as a chance to secure Trent Williams’ future successor. Trading Aiyuk would be a wise decision if that is the case and they select an offensive tackle who will go on to become a Hall of Famer. It’s a fireable offence, though, if they trade him and select a wide receiver who is only half as talented as Aiyuk.
