The Sooners have swiftly initiated their efforts for the 2025 class, garnering 10 commitments and securing a top-five ranking according to two prominent recruiting services.

Under the leadership of Brent Venables and his dedicated staff, the recruiting trail has been vigorously traversed throughout January. The 2025 class for OU is already making a formidable impression, particularly leaning towards the offensive side. Presently, the commitments include six offensive players, encompassing three wide receivers and two offensive line prospects. The strategic focus on bolstering the offensive lineup reflects the program’s commitment to building a well-rounded and potent team for the upcoming seasons.

Despite the offensive emphasis in recruiting, the Sooners are actively pursuing top-tier defensive prospects. In a recent development, Oklahoma has received four predictions favoring the recruitment of five-star safety Jonah Williams from Galveston, Texas. Williams, who currently plays linebacker in high school, holds the impressive ranking of No. 2 in that position according to the 247Sports Composite. Furthermore, he stands as the second-best player overall in the state of Texas for the 2025 class. In OU’s recruiting strategy, Williams is being targeted as a safety or possibly for the Cheetah position.

All four predictions for Williams have come from On3 recruiting analysts, including those from both the Texas Insider and the Texas A&M Insider. The latter holds significant weight, considering Texas A&M has previously outcompeted OU for the recruitment of elite defensive players in recent years. This underscores the competitiveness in securing top defensive talents and the Sooners’ determination to strengthen their defensive roster for the future.

Tory Blaylock, a highly regarded four-star running back hailing from Humble, Texas, has become a national focal point, capturing significant attention for his skills. While it’s still early in the recruiting process, Collin Kennedy of 247Sports anticipates that Blaylock will eventually commit to the Oklahoma Sooners.

Currently ranked as the 12th-best running back in the 2025 class and a top-160 player overall by 247Sports, Blaylock is gaining recognition on the national stage. The Sooners, who presently lack a running back commitment for the 2025 class, could significantly bolster their roster by securing Blaylock, adding a standout player to their already impressive class.

In addition to Blaylock, the Sooners are also eyeing four-star cornerback Cobey Sellers from Pearland, Texas, located near Houston. Sellers, ranked as a top-30 player in his position for the 2025 class and a top-150 player nationally, has garnered attention with a pair of crystal ball projections. Both Rivals Futurecast and On3 predict Sellers will choose the Sooners, adding to the anticipation surrounding Oklahoma’s early success in securing top talent for their 2025 class.

While Oklahoma is actively pursuing Cobey Sellers, the four-star cornerback from Pearland, Texas, other prominent programs are also vying for his commitment. Sellers has garnered offers from esteemed football programs such as Georgia, Oregon, Washington, Texas, Texas A&M, and LSU, showcasing the widespread interest in his talents. According to Rivals, Sellers holds the rank of the 28th-best cornerback in the 2025 class, underscoring his status as a sought-after prospect with national recognition. The competitive recruitment process emphasizes Sellers’ desirability and the challenge the Sooners face in securing his commitment amid stiff competition from other prestigious football programs.
