Significant Changes coming to Alabama football spring practice under Kalen DeBoer

Next week will mark the beginning of spring practice for Alabama football under new head coach Kalen DeBoer. As required by the NCAA, the Crimson Tide will have 15 sessions when spring ball begins on Monday.

Three practices are scheduled for the Crimson Tide prior to UA’s spring break, which takes place from March 8–17. After the break, Alabama will resume its final twelve workouts on the pitch.

On April 13, UA will play its yearly A-Day game at Bryant-Denny Stadium, capping off spring practice. DeBoer, who succeeded Nick Saban after the six-time national championship winning coach retired in January, has not stated if the game’s structure will be the same as it has been in the past.

That day, A-Day is set to start at 3 p.m. CT.

Access for the media has been improved under DeBoer. Interviews with assistant coaches will be conducted, and practice viewing will be permitted in moderation.

At Alabama, Saban implemented a “one-voice” policy that essentially barred assistants from any involvement save for infrequent coordinator interviews and bowl eligibility, both of which were outside of the Tide’s control. He also fully stopped providing media with practice access towards the end of his stay at UA.

The pro day for UA has been scheduled for March 20. Players eligible for the draft from Saban’s final squad will participate in the tournament.
