Sheffield Wednesday legend, has high expectations for the Owls: “Turn that corner.”

Sheffield Wednesday Match Ball Sponsorship - All Seasons Energy

Sheffield Wednesday legend, Des Walker, says that he hopes to see the club turn a corner now they’ve maintained their spot in the Championship.

The Owls had a successful season, ensuring their safety on the last day of play. However, since Danny Röhl took over for Xisco when the squad was struggling early in the season, they have been playing well.

Walker, who played for Wednesday in the Premier League in the 1990s, is well-aware of the team’s potential. During his nine years at Hillsborough, he made 362 appearances for the team, solidifying his status as a popular blue-and-white player.

The England star expressed his wish to see the Owls advance and contend for a top-flight berth moving forward during a speech at a charity event for the Create A Dream Foundation.

He declared on the evening, “I came to Sheffield Wednesday as a top five/top seven Premier League club.” “So my brain will always see things that way; that’s how it perceives them. You want to return there, just like you did with Nottingham Forest or any other place I played. I want them to rise once more.

“That’s how I view the football team in my heart. I’ve watched them this season and last season’s play-off final, and it’s been an emotional ride. However, I believe they should have advanced last season, and although they performed poorly as a football team this year, I still believe they should have been in this division.

“They need to figure out how to improve for the next year. They need to figure out how to improve for next season because good things don’t come to those who wait around and you don’t get out of prison twice. This is a club that, in my opinion, deserves to be better and at the very least, should be competing at the top of the Championship. Hopefully, they’ll change that for next year.

The players from Wednesday are currently on vacation, giving their bodies a well-earned rest until some of them return for the preseason after choices about who will and won’t play in 2024–2025 have been made.
