David Moyes, the manager of West Ham, may have pulled off a brilliant move when he sold one player in particular.

Over the past few years, West Ham supporters have been very critical of David Moyes for failing to get the most out of some of their attacking players.

He’s had to let go of some of them at discounted prices as a result. One very notable illustration of such is Sebastien Haller.

Even though it didn’t seem like it at the time, the Scot was 100% correct to sell one player.

Gianluca Scamacca was sold by Moyes to Atalanta in the summer for approximately €30 million (£26 million), as 90 Minutes reported.

Although the 6′ 5in Italian hitman had a great start to life with the Serie A team, things have gradually started to go wrong for him.

Now, the Italian media has exposed the 25-year-old’s shortcomings.

Selling player for £26m was a masterstroke from West Ham boss David Moyes

Corriere della Sera (print edition February 27th) let Scamacca have it with both barrels today, accusing him of not fighting and failing to sacrifice himself for the team.

The former Sassuolo player entered the game in the second half of Atalanta’s Sunday match with AC Milan, and he played a dreadful job.

The lack of fight, bravery, effort, or enthusiasm in Scamacca’s display had any West Ham supporter watching think, “I’ve seen this before.”

The Italy international is undoubtedly talented and possesses excellent technique, but most of the time his execution is lacking.

I was among the many Hammers supporters who were inconsolable when Scamacca was sold in the summer.

However, getting £26 million for him now appears to have been a brilliant move by David Moyes, and if he keeps failing to put in the work and drive necessary to succeed at the top level, West Ham would have achieved an incredibly positive outcome by letting him leave.
