The potential future of Houston Texans tight end Brevin Jordan may be more promising with the team than many people are aware of.
As attention turns to the 2024 NFL season for all but four teams, the offseason is filled with activities focused on team improvement. Amid these preparations, there is growing anticipation for the next phase of development for the youthful Houston Texans.
In a single season, the Texans transformed from a 3-13-1 record to 10-7, securing the AFC South championship and winning a Wild Card playoff game. If Houston can replicate the same level of improvement from Year 1 to Year 2, as they achieved in their initial offseason under DeMeco Ryans last spring, the team’s potential knows no bounds.
A player who could play a crucial role in that improvement is the right end, Brevin Jordan.
Even with limited chances this season, Jordan demonstrated his capacity to influence the game. He achieved notable statistics, registering 1.89 yards per route run, securing the sixth position among tight ends with over 150 routes (including the Divisional round).
His most notable contribution came in the wild-card triumph against the Cleveland Browns. During that game, Jordan transformed a short pass from C.J. Stroud into a 76-yard touchdown late in the second quarter. Notably, he reached a top speed of 20 mph during the catch-and-run, prompting an immediate drug test request from the NFL after the game.
Jordan received the team’s fourth-highest receiving grade, surpassing pending free agent Dalton Schultz.
Jordan performed exceptionally well towards the end of the season, earning recognition from PFF as the Texans’ breakout candidate for 2024. However, we believe his potential goes beyond just a breakout. While it may have taken a couple of years to showcase, Jordan possesses the talent and capability to achieve more.
Houston boasts an energetic and youthful receiving group featuring Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and John Metchie III. The team also possesses a skillful running back unit, the NFL’s top young quarterback in C.J. Stroud, and a durable offensive line. In this setting, Jordan, being a matchup challenge, has the potential to capitalize on the talent around him, making him a likely force on the field early and frequently in 2024.
Simply put, with a solid rapport established with Stroud, Jordan’s role in the offense becomes crucial, particularly if Schultz is not retained in free agency. There’s even the possibility that, if events unfold as anticipated, Jordan could be considered for his first Pro Bowl selection.
