Reports: Eels are apparently looking to move on winger.

He has been absent from first grade this season.

The Parramatta Eels are reportedly aiming to offload winger Maika Sivo from the club.

Some may find this move unsurprising, given Sivo has recently fallen out of favour with the club. The winger, who has also missed games due to suspension and injury this year, has played only four games in the 2024 season, in Rounds 4 and 5, and then again in Round 8.

He was dropped owing to poor form at one point, and while he has been recalled out of necessity, the Eels, according to a Fox Sports story, have no desire for him to complete the remainder of his contract in blue and gold. It is reported that the North Queensland Cowboys are interested in bringing Sivo to the club as they look to improve their own outside backs and add depth to an area where they have struggled, but have no room to transfer due to a tight pay limit.

That means the Eels may have to pay a significant portion of Sivo’s compensation if he leaves the club, since the 30-year-old Fijian is now under contract until the end of 2025 on a deal worth roughly $550,000 per year. Sivo has two years of mutual options when his contract expires at the end of 2025, which may keep him in the west of Sydney until at least the end of 2027.

With that now unlikely to be taken up, Sivo could openly engage with other clubs beginning November 1, though he may already have permission from the Eels if they are looking to offload him.
