The Vancouver Canucks have reportedly extended a long-term contract offer to Elias Pettersson. According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the offer is an eight-year deal with an average annual value of $12 million. Pagnotta states that the offer has not been rejected and remains available for Pettersson to consider. However, Pettersson is taking his time to assess his future, preferring to wait until the end of the season before making a decision.

All I want for Christmas is for the Canucks to sign Elias Pettersson to a contract extension - CanucksArmy

The Canucks have the advantage of controlling Pettersson’s rights as a restricted free agent, meaning they can match any offer he receives from another team. While Pettersson has not yet accepted the offer, there is no immediate pressure for him to do so, as he can become a restricted free agent on July 1st.

Pettersson’s focus has been on the current season, where he is on pace for another impressive performance with 73 points in 58 games. Despite a recent three-game losing streak, the Canucks remain in first place in the Pacific Division, giving Pettersson confidence in the team’s future success.

Overall, Pettersson appears content with the direction of the Canucks, especially with the addition of head coach Rick Tocchet and supporting players like Elias Lindholm, which bodes well for his decision-making process regarding the contract offer.
