Report: Two crucial Titans players are having trouble early in the NFL training camp.

In addition to the unexpected retirement of an expected starter on the offensive line and the deep-ball connection between Will Levis and Calvin Ridley, head coach Brian Callahan is also concerned about two Titans players who have struggled early in NFL training camp.

Leading the charge is rookie L’Jarius Sneed. Due to injury precautions, the fifth-year veteran cornerback (who joined from Kansas City) hasn’t been able to get in a lot of practice time. Caleb Farley, a defensive back and previous first-round choice, is another player having trouble due to injuries.

L’Jarius Sneed of the Titans hopes to have an influence

During the first half of the 2024 AFC wild card game at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins, cornerback L’Jarius Sneed (38), reacts to a play.

USA TODAY Sports’ Jay Biggerstaff

Sneed didn’t leave the Chiefs with any individual postseason awards, but he did start every game in their consecutive Super Bowl championship runs. Over the previous two seasons, he recorded 186 total tackles and five interceptions. In 2023, Sneed limited opposing receivers to 9.7 yards per catch and allowed only 42 receptions on 81 targets.

He told Tennessean.com that he is dissatisfied with the injury scenario, especially because his knee feels fine.

It’s really annoying. I’m able to say that, Sneed remarked. Sometimes, (the load management) wears me out. You can see where it led me last year. It assisted me in figuring out what I needed to do. It seems to work, in my opinion. I just need to keep up my current level of health and make it to Week 1. I’m only attempting to get there.

The Tennessee Titans organization has decided to gradually bring Sneed up to the 2024 campaign. Callahan told Tennessee Titans on X earlier this year that he respects Sneed’s approach to the game.

“I’ve had enough experience playing against L’Jarius to have a great deal of respect for his business practices,” Callahan remarked. “And you guys saw a glimpse of it during his press conference, but he’s also a wonderful person. He’s a great asset to our club, in my opinion, both as a player and a guy in the locker room.

Callahan has access to talent in the lower

In addition, Callahan expressed his admiration for the secondary duo of Sneed and Chidobe Awuzie.

“I think they change the whole demeanor of what you ask in the secondary in how they play,” Callahan said. “The mentality (Sneed) brings to the defense, and you pair him with Chido — two guys that are really physical, really aggressive.” “And then you throw in Roger (McCreary), who plays with a lot of fury as a nickel. That’s a really solid set of corners who play well and hold themselves to the same standards.

“And in the end, I believe that’s what you’re searching for—guys who play that way and then expect it from everyone else around them.”

Before the season, Pro Football Focus has the Titans secondary at No. 15, which puts them in the center of the pack. That’s not too bad, given that the unit only had six interceptions in 2023 and finished last in the NFL. It’s also anticipated that Quandre Diggs’ recent signing will help the team.

What’s happening to Farley?

Farley was selected by the Titans with the No. 22 overall choice in the 2021 NFL Draft because they were impressed with him. However, the cornerback’s time in the league hasn’t been kind to him as he only appeared in 12 games with two starts throughout his first two seasons. Additionally, he played no games in 2023.

And he played a somewhat ineffectual game once he was on the field. In his career, he is listed as having 14 total tackles and 0 interceptions. For the gifted footballer, three long seasons had passed.

Furthermore, Farley’s hamstring ailment has kept him out of action. It’s said he will be absent for several weeks. And this is on a club that added L’Jarius Sneed to the mix in the summer to overhaul their secondary.

Farley’s current injury serves as a reminder of his former experiences. Due of the pandemic, he opted to miss the 2020 collegiate football season; nonetheless, in his debut season, he tore his ACL. Additionally, foxsports.com reports that he missed the entire previous year due to back surgery, which was the third such procedure since his undergraduate days.

Farley also endured the loss of his father in a gas explosion at his house in North Carolina.

Carthon isn’t giving up on Farley This year, Farley needed to make progress toward improving his health. Titans general manager Ran Carthon stated via atozsports.com that being available is essential.

Carthon stated, “It goes without saying that you have to be healthy and present in order to make this team.” Caleb’s dedication to the process gives me a lot of encouragement. He’s had every justification to take breaks and move away, both on and off the field. But he’s overcome a great deal of hardship. He’s faced it head-on and arrives at work every day prepared. You are therefore limited to appreciating and respecting that. But he will need to maintain his health and demonstrate that he deserves to be on this team, just like the rest of the players.
