Marko Bulat remains a target for Rangers to bring in before the deadline after the club made contact over a move in December, according to Football Scotland.

The outlet reported via their website on 14 January that the £5million-rated midfielder is still on the short-list at Ibrox following an approach last month, suggesting a move could yet be on the cards.

The club laid some groundwork for a move for the Croatian ahead of the January transfer window, and Bulat, 22, reportedly remains a going concern.

Striker and left-back have largely been in focus at Ibrox since the market opened but it was only a few weeks ago when Philippe Clement was facing a selection crisis in midfield so that also appears to be part of the plan.

All change

It would be surprising if Rangers had millions available to spend on a player at the position midseason, so any arrival may be more possible in a loan-to-buy format.

Striker and left-back have largely been in focus at Ibrox since the market opened but it was only a few weeks ago when Philippe Clement was facing a selection crisis in midfield so that also appears to be part of the plan.

Injury concerns have dogged numerous other options, with Ryan Jack almost as unable to stay fit as Kemar Roofe, while Tom Lawrence and, to a lesser extent, Kieran Dowell have been plagued by bad luck themselves since heading to Glasgow from Derby County and Norwich respectively.

Nico Raskin has only just returned from a lengthy lay-off himself, so while there are numbers in the squad it hasn’t prevented Clement needing to turn to full-back Dujon Sterling in his time as manager, to pretty decent results.

Bulat has years left on his contract yet (expiring in 2027) so is hardly going to be a bargain, but he has been in and out of the side at Dynamo Zagreb this season so may be available.

Whatever money is to hand is surely going to need to be directed to the goalscoring positions, while any budget brought on from a possible Ridvan Yilmaz sale will probably be required in landing a replacement, so it remains to be seen what can be done in midfield this month outside of those two areas.
