Report: Injury blow As Nuggets’ Key Man Out vs Heat After Suffering Sprained Ankle Injury

Jamal Murray, a guard with the Denver Nuggets, departed Thursday’s game against the Miami Heat due to a sprained right ankle and was subsequently ruled out.

In the second quarter, Murray drove to the hoop and leaped to transfer the ball, tripping over teammate Aaron Gordon’s foot and landing awkwardly. Both the precise extent of his ankle sprain and his future status are presently unknown.

Murray played 14 minutes and finished with six points, three assists, and two steals on 2–6 shooting.

This season, the 27-year-old has already been ruled out of 16 games; he missed 11 straight games beginning on November 6 owing to a hamstring ailment. The Nuggets have performed poorly when Murray has been absent, going 9-7 without him compared to the team’s 40-19 record overall.

He was already experiencing what was known as shin splints, or inflammation in both tibias, which kept him out of action for a few games earlier in February. According to John Hollinger of The Athletic, Nuggets head coach Michael Malone informed reporters on February 23 that “every time he plays it’s going to be an issue.”

Due to a ruptured ACL he sustained in April 2021, Murray missed the team’s postseason berths in 2021 and 2022. Denver will be hopeful that his condition is not too catastrophic.

Before Thursday’s game against Miami, the former first-round selection maintained his excellent play in his 43 starts, averaging 20.9 points and 6.4 assists per game while shooting 42% from the field and 48% from beyond the arc.

Backup point guard Reggie Jackson will probably play more if Murray is forced to miss time. In 59 games, the seasoned floor general has averaged 10.6 points, 3.9 assists, and 36.3 percent from three-point range.
