REPORT: Giant Star Player of Jets tight end claimed off waivers by the Eagles

After they dismissed and injured McCallen Castles earlier on Saturday, the Philadelphia Eagles needed to address their tight end depth, and they did so quickly.

An official statement from the Birds stated that they had claimed undrafted rookie Kevin Foelsch off waivers from the New York Jets.

There is no connection to Nick Foles, for those who are curious.

Foelsch attended the University of New Haven (Division II) to play collegiate football. He was born in Ramsey, New Jersey. Here are his statistics from college:

Foelsch was promptly waived after signing with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted rookie free agent. After that, he took part in the rookie minicamp as a tryout player for the Jets. Apparently, he made enough of an impression to be added to their roster of ninety men. Not enough, though, to prevent being sacked recently.

Here’s a snippet from our friends at Gang Green Nation’s scouting report on Foelsch:

Foelsch is as dominant as you would like to see for a player coming up from Division II to the NFL, judging by his highlights. His statistical output wasn’t all that outstanding, though.

However, it’s possible that he was limited by poor quarterbacking or that he was just a member of a squad that didn’t pass much. The fact that he made other contributions might indicate that he has a strong team-first mentality, but he must take advantage of whatever opportunity he has to establish his potential with the Jets.

It is obvious that Foelsch has little chance of making the Eagles’ 53-man roster. Having said that, there appears to be a strong competition for the third position, which is occupied by Grant Calcaterra and Dallas Goedert. He could have that spot if Foelsch can come forward. Or maybe he can get himself a roster position on the practice squad.
