The reason Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway seems like home: Ross Chastain

Driver Ross Chastain of the NASCAR Cup Series stated that competing in the Battle of Broadway 150 at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway will feel like going home, despite the fact that he has never raced there. As the current Ally 400 winner at Nashville Superspeedway in the NASCAR Cup Series, Chastain has a number of connections to Nashville.

Three days prior to the Ally 400 this season at the superspeedway, on June 27, there will be the first-ever Battle of Broadway, a pro late models race. Several other NASCAR Cup drivers who will be in town that week are anticipated to join Chastain. Josh Berry, a rookie in the NASCAR Cup Series and a native of Hendersonville, has also committed to race in the Battle of Broadway 150.

Among Chastain’s other local ties are his affiliation with the Nashville-based Trackhouse Racing Team. He will be driving the No. 1 Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge Chevrolet, which is being readied by Centerville-based Rackley W.A.R. Justin Marks, the owner of Trackhouse Racing, resides in Nashville. “It’s never easy (to add races outside the Cup schedule), but to be able to race in Nashville where Trackhouse’s brain trust is and it being a home race makes it worth it,” Chastain stated. “Any reason I can get to travel to Nashville, finish off a little work ahead of schedule, and have fun is welcome. Maybe we should treat ourselves to a cool Busch Light on Broadway. We’ll see.

The Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway is leased by Bob Sargent, the owner of the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour, who is also the race’s non-points winner in the Battle of Broadway 150.

“An additional reason I’m coming is Bob Sargent,” Chastain remarked. “He runs the series and we talked and I got to know him and he told me they were going to have this on the weekend of the Cup race and it sounded like something I wanted to be a part of.”

Sargent disclosed to The Tennessean that he had collected $10,000 for the Battle of Broadway 150 winner. He stated that in addition to Chastain and Berry, he anticipates a number of local drivers competing. Sargent remarked, “We keep adding to the excitement of this event.” Our collaboration with the Nashville Superspeedway will be very close. Simply put, we believe it’s a fantastic opportunity for our local drivers to compete against these drivers from out of town and make some extra cash. The presence of Ross Chastain, the reigning Ally 400 champion and undoubtedly one of the best NASCAR drivers right now, adds even more specialness to the event.”
