Danilo has taken to Instagram to post an update to Rangers supporters after undergoing surgery on his knee injury.

The Brazilian forward, 24, was injured playing against Hearts in a 1-0 win at Tynecastle earlier this month.

It was hoped he would only miss a few weeks of action but he has been ruled out for around four months in a blow to boss Philippe Clement.

Still, Danilo was in good spirits after the procedure, taking to his Instagram story (15 December) to state the hard work on his recovery can now begin.

One post read: “Hey guys, the surgery went well. Just wanted to give you guys updates.”

Another, he posted: “Back home. Revalidation starts now. Time to come back stronger.”

A blow

It really was a tough blow to take for Danilo, Clement and Rangers supporters when the severity of his injury came to light.

Having already missed nine games with a broken cheekbone this season, losing Danilo – who most would agree is Rangers’ best striker option – until near the end of the campaign is not what anyone wanted to see.

There will be a gruelling few months ahead for Danilo now and let’s hope that he can come back and make a big impact towards the run-in where hopefully Rangers will still be title contention.

As for the here and now, Clement will likely look to bring in at least one, if not two, strikers during the January transfer window. With Kemar Roofe having well-documented fitness issues and Cyriel Dessers an unreliable source of regular goals.

It remains to be seen if Hearts ace Lawrence Shankland will be a target but there is a need for more firepower.
