Millwall Analysis: Duncan Watmore's impact including rare Lions trait and where he should play - Southwark News

Next up for Millwall is a trip to Leicester, and even though the club has been struggling, Watmore is optimistic that they will soon find their footing.

DUNCAN Watmore is adamant that he and his colleagues will improve their form because they “trust the process.”

Before tonight’s difficult journey to league leaders Leicester City, the Lions have only won one of their last ten games following a 1-0 loss to Cardiff City.

Following an outstanding 4-0 triumph away at Sheffield Wednesday to start his tenure, head coach Joe Edwards is currently in charge of a club that is getting closer to the relegation zone.

Watmore, 29, says he and the players are working hard to make things right since he feels that Millwall isn’t winning at the moment.

“I think we’re close, and I think it’s up to us to tighten up a couple of things and turn performances into results,” he said to NewsAtDen. Our team is adamant that we can turn things around and have a successful run. We firmly think we’re doing a lot of things correctly and have faith in our abilities.

At this point, the margins are what matter, so we need to make sure we turn them around and ensure that they work in our advantage.

“I think we need to maintain our faith in the process. Every player and every team experiences this, and the only way to overcome it is to keep trying, believing, and performing the fundamentals. We are certain that we can improve these outcomes and move up the ladder.

After bringing energy to the team’s performance at Cardiff by coming off the bench, Watmore will be vying for his first start in more than two months tonight.

He stated that the players are learning from new manager Edwards, who is in charge of his sixth game today, and that he has gelled well with the group.

“He’s a really good man and he’s been really good with us,” he continued. We’re all learning, and I appreciate working with him. Although we are going through one of those phases, we are certain that we can turn things around and that results will eventually materialise; all we need to do is keep improving. Everyone is in agreement, and it is our responsibility as participants to ensure that things change.

“I think we’re just looking to get a bit more possession of the ball, but the key thing the manager has been keen on is making sure that doesn’t affect us off the ball,” Watmore stated in response to Edwards’ attempt to implement a new style. That’s what we need to balance, and as players, it’s our duty to ensure that, even if we receive more possession of the ball and ideally generate more opportunities, we play just as well off it. And the manager has been really interested in it, which is something we’re working on on the training pitch.

We allowed a few careless goals to be in, and the two boxes are where the action is. As athletes, we are aware of this, and we are putting a lot of effort into doing so at the gym.

A recurring knee issue that resurfaced in October’s 2-2 draw with Hull City has kept Watmore out of the starting lineup for six of the previous nine games.

Regarding his level of fitness at the moment, he stated: “I feel fine. I’ve had to deal with a chronic knee condition for the most of my career due to a few injuries I’ve had. I guess I get accustomed to it, but having to deal with it and losing out on games is really annoying.

“However, I have to accept these things since they are a part of life, football, and the nature of my knee. I’m grateful to the medical staff and the coaches for their assistance in helping me manage it. I do my best to handle it, and I’m doing well now.
