A pivotal member in Florida is being promoted to Director of Football Performance

Arizona Basketball: Season Preview and Injury Update

Tyler Miles has been promoted internally to the job of strength and conditioning coordinator as Florida replaces Craig Fitzgerald, the previous Director of Football Performance.

Edgar Thompson of the Orlando Sentinel reports that Florida is elevating Tyler Miles, its Director of Player Athletic Development, to become the Director of Football Performance, which will include managing the Gators’ strength and conditioning programme.

Miles will take over for Craig Fitzgerald, who departed the programme on February 11th, having been there for just a month, to assume a comparable job at Boston College.

Fitzgerald took over Florida’s strength and conditioning programme in late December 2023 after its previous director, Mark Hocke, was moved to a player development role.

“We acknowledge that these choices are a necessary aspect of our profession and that we have all encountered these situations at some point,” Florida head coach Billy Napier said in a statement following Fitzgerald’s departure. “This game is about relationships, as I’ve stated before, and coach Fitz and coach O’Brien of Boston College have a long history together. Fitz is well respected by us, and we appreciate everything he accomplished for our team.

“I also have a lot of faith in our excellent team of sports scientists and strength assistants. We’ll get back together, assess the circumstances, and come to yet another wise team choice. Because of our great location at the University of Florida, we are able to draw the greatest students in the nation.

Before the 2023 campaign, Miles worked as a player development employee for the Gators, where he was assigned to assist players in their recuperation from injuries and return to the field, according to Thompson.

Miles worked as Duke’s associate director of sports performance in 2022 before being hired by Gainesville. He was mostly involved with the football programme there.

Prior to this, he worked as an assistant and an intern in strength and conditioning at South Carolina (2017), Tennessee (2018), Miami (2021), Northwestern State (2019), and for a brief period of time in 2018–19 with the New York Jets. In 2020, he oversaw Tennessee State’s strength and conditioning department, working with the football, volleyball, and track teams.

Thompson stated that once Fitzgerald left the club, the players in Florida pushed for Miles to take over as head of the strength and conditioning department. Miles had been in charge of the department in an interim capacity.
