OFFICIAL: Hamilton Tiger-Cats sign defensive lineman.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have added defensive lineman Vonnie Watkins to their roster, as confirmed by the CFL Transactions page. Watkins, who went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, brings an impressive set of skills and achievements to the team.

Standing at six feet four inches tall and weighing 238 pounds, Watkins hails from Lusby, Maryland. During his time at Ohio University, he showcased his abilities on the field, tallying 33 tackles (15 solo, 18 assisted), eight tackles for loss, five sacks, and two forced fumbles in just 13 games in 2023. Throughout his collegiate career, spanning from 2019 to 2023, Watkins played a total of 33 games for Ohio, accumulating 83 tackles (37 solo, 46 assisted), 23 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, three pass breakups, and four forced fumbles.

Watkins’ talent was evident even in high school, where he earned the title of Maryland All-State Associated Press Defensive End in both his junior and senior seasons. His prowess on the field helped lead Patuxent High School to a State Championship during his junior year. Over the course of his high school career, Watkins recorded an impressive 278 tackles, including 60 tackles for loss and 19 sacks. Not limited to defense, he also played tight end, amassing 54 catches for 930 yards and eight touchdowns.

The signing of Watkins represents a significant addition to the Tiger-Cats’ defense. His versatility, highlighted by his ability to contribute on both sides of the ball in high school, coupled with his collegiate achievements, positions him as a promising prospect for the team.
