Among the great quarterbacks who only participated in one Super Bowl and lost it are Dan Marino, Steve McNair, Donovan McNabb, and Colin Kaepernick.
Quarterbacks who have participated in the Super Bowl fall into two categories: those who, like Tom Brady, have won several rings, and those who lost their one and only chance to play in the Big Game. Numerous people start to question which group Brock Purdy will be placed in after his loss in the LVIII edition.
Purdy and his 49ers had an incredible season, which came to an end on February 11th. Following nearly uncontested NFC West title and decisive playoff victory over the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions, the club made its way back to the Super Bowl for the second time in five years.

Despite the fact that Purdy still has his whole career ahead of him and is just in his second year, pundits and fans are already starting to contrast him with former quarterbacks who were close to greatness but were never given the chance to win another championship.
A great such as Dan Marino, the standout quarterback for the Miami Dolphins who fell short against Joe Montana and the 49ers in Super Bowl XIX, leads the list. Another fortunate arm, “Boomer” Esiason, had one chance, in Super Bowl XXIII, which Montana also won.
That list has increased tremendously over the last 30 years, adding guys like Stan Humphries, who won Super Bowl XXVI while playing as Mark Rypien’s backup for the Washington Redskins, but lost Super Bowl XXIX as a starter with the San Diego Chargers.
After starting for the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI, Drew Bledsoe was substituted by Tom Brady in Super Bowl XXXVI, where he won a championship ring. This also applies to Jimmy Garoppolo, who, despite starting for San Francisco in Super Bowl LIV, lost the game, having won Super Bowls XLIX and LI with Brady in the background.
Garoppolo is still in the game and has a chance to win as a starting quarterback even if there are reports that he is leaving the Las Vegas Raiders. He has just had ten years in his career, so time is running out, but it is still possible.
Purdy and the fresh group
Brock Garoppolo’s case is not the same as Purdy’s. The quarterback for the Niners is only in his second year of play. He has a lengthy career ahead of him, and San Francisco has a talented team with the potential to build a dynasty, despite the fact that he missed his rookie season due to injuries.
Even though the Los Angeles Rams lost Super Bowl LIII, Jared Goff is another member of this new quarterback class that has proven his mettle in the big game. But he has high aspirations now that he led the Detroit Lions to the NFC Championship game with his recent performance.
Leading their respective teams to the Big Game, Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI and Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII both shown leadership abilities. Despite their respective losses, they still have time to play a championship game and add their names to the pantheon of great sports stars.
