It sounds like the Yankees could end up landing another superstar in a blockbuster trade.

The New York Yankees may have missed out on their top free-agent pitcher but that doesn’t mean another superstar won’t be coming to town this offseason.

New York needs to add to the rotation this offseason if it wants to compete for a World Series title in 2024. The Yankees clearly are going all-in and landed superstar outfielder Juan Soto knowing that he could leave in free agency next year.

The Yankees need to maximize the 2024 season and have been linked to multiple stars. One player who could possibly be acquired in a major trade reportedly is Chicago White Sox ace Dylan Cease, according to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel.

“Chicago White Sox (right-handed pitcher) Dylan Cease is the biggest name who could still be traded this winter,” McDaniel said. “The asking price has been high, though, with the White Sox seemingly waiting until after Yamamoto signed to up the price, hoping to find a trade partner in the exact situation the Yankees are in now.

“The package needed to land Cease would be steep, probably something like this: Chase Hampton (the Yankees’ top pitching prospect after the Juan Soto trade), another top 100-caliber prospect in outfielder Everson Pereira along with bat-first catcher Agustin Ramirez.”

New York has been mentioned as a possible fit for Cease on multiple occasions at this point and it’s not hard to see why. He is just 28 years old and has shown an ability to be a team’s true ace.

Landing him in a trade would be costly, but the Yankees have to do everything possible to win a World Series this season before they possibly could lose Soto. Now that Yoshinobu Yamamoto has signed, don’t be surprised if Cease is dealt shortly.
