News Update: Washington Commanders have made coaching decision as new owners make their mark.

Dan Snyder agrees to sell Washington Commanders to Josh Harris for US$6bn, say reports - SportsPro

Over the course of this season, Commanders head coach Ron Rivera has been under constant criticism, and it appears that the team’s new owner, John Harris, will soon decide how to proceed with his future.

Head coach of the Washington Commanders Ron Rivera may lead a mass departure of front office employees as new owner Josh Harris tries to instill his own vision in the organisation.

Given that coach Rivera is in his fourth year at FedEx Field, there has been much conjecture that the new administration there may want to make changes at the end of the current season. There may be a breakup in store for Washington because they haven’t finished an NFC East season with a winning record since they won the conference in 2020.

Going forward, the idea is to end Rivera’s tenure with the team at the end of the regular season, according to the Athletic. They assert that they have information from sources indicating that Harris has always intended to retain the existing head coach through the completion of the current campaign.

It is said that Rivera’s rumoured departure is’really not a secret anymore,’ and that this information offers ‘no surprises’ in light of the ownership transition. As reported by Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports back in November, “it is widely assumed that [Rivera] will not be retained as head coach and the ostensible chief of football for the Commanders after the 17th game of the year.”

The Commanders have a miserable year and are presently anchored to the bottom of the NFC East rankings with a 4-8 season record. To put their last setback—a 45–15 loss to the Miami Dolphins—into perspective, it was their sixth setback in their previous eight games.

In the past, Rivera has avoided discussing the possibility of losing his job at the conclusion of the regular season. Last month, he told reporters, “I’ve told you before I’m not worried about anything.” I’m just going to carry out my duties and monitor the situation. I am limited to doing that.”

However, his players appeared to brush off any rumours regarding their head coach’s future with the group. Charles Leno, Jr., a left tackle for the Washington Redskins, was among those who took exception at the notion that Rivera’s time with the club may be coming to an end, stating: “It’s only when you guys ask.” Nobody else is discussing this s****. We pay attention to our coaches, execute the game plan, and strive to win games. We don’t talk about or care about this s***.”
