News Update: NFL Draft Prospects for the Sooners Are Interesting

Oklahoma football: Four unsettled storylines looming over opener

Every week, we assess what topics Sooners supporters would like to discuss in our board chat. Even if Oklahoma has received less attention lately, there is still a lot to talk about. From the more realistic assessments of how some of Oklahoma’s top talents would do in the NFL draft to a more comprehensive outlook on the future of the NCAA schedule.

Additionally, some discussion on one of the hottest subjects in Sooners circles right now: recruiting and evaluation of the offensive line.

What Does Danny Stutsman and Billy Bowman’s Future in the NFL Draft Look Like?

Both of the Sooners’ stars are probably late second- or early third-round selections.

In my opinion, Danny is the one that still has room to climb. With his frame, the three-year starter from Oklahoma is a touch more prototypical, and I believe he will test slightly higher than average among his peers than Bowman did.

What makes Bowman so unique are his instincts.

What changes Need to be Made to the NCAA Calendar?

Although I intend to write a longer story on it, this seems like the fundamental synopsis.

Have the early signing period just before the start of team camp, perhaps in late July or early August. Then in February there was another. The portal window can only operate in December, but you can move around a little on early national signing day (which is a good idea, if you feel obligated to have one).

Another reason I appreciate it is that you’re giving the CFB calendar more significance at different periods of the year. You’re becoming more visible and engaged as a result.

How Much Stock Should We Put in the Sooners 2024 OL Rankings?

Yeah, I don’t believe that any position in the sport should signify less to supporters than on the OL, Sooners or not.

Take a look at the NFL all-pro team for this season:

Trent Williams – 3-star
Joel Bitonio – UR
Tyler Smith – 3-star
Jason Kelce – UR
Zack Martin – 4-star
Lane Johnson – UR

Avg Ranking: 1.66-stars

And I’m not even criticizing many of those rankings—Kelly was a quarterback and Johnson was a running back/linebacker; who is going to predict that pair of players will one day be inducted into the Hall of Fame?

Once more, I believe that every year the assessment procedure becomes more transparent, efficient, and far superior than it was even a decade ago. However, even elite offensive line coaches can make terrible mistakes in terms of who they choose to take and who they choose not to.
