Mystery Unveiled: Jameis Winston Explains the Origin Behind His Eating a 'W' Pre-Game Speech

The head coach of Houston and the seasoned quarterback have a special bond.

With his distinctive workout regimen, his viral pregame hype, or moments like the now-famous fake quarterback kneel he executed during the New Orleans Saints’ Week 18 victory against the Atlanta Falcons, Jameis Winston is undoubtedly one of the league’s most colorful characters. In addition, he won a national championship and the Heisman Trophy, which speaks volumes about his skill and commitment to the game. He will soon begin his tenth season in the league.

As Winston recently revealed on the “Pardon My Take” podcast, DeMeco Ryans, the head coach of the Houston Texans, was an inspiration to him as a young quarterback. Although they were both born in Bessemer, Alabama, Winston claims that their relationship is considerably more profound than that.

“There are two people from Bessemer, Alabama that I would say made me and inspired me to be [who I am],” Winston stated. “DeMeco Ryans is one. In actuality, I signed my first football with him. Shout out to DeMeco in Houston and his efforts there; my uncle truly coached him all the way up from little league to high school. Bo Jackson as well. They both hail from Bessemer.”

Winston has been the target of jokes on social media in the past for his pregame ritual, which he clarified is done to get ready for anything that may come up during live play. In addition, Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud has a distinctive pregame routine that involves basketball shooting and hitting with a bat similar to one that baseball professionals regularly employ.

Throughout his Rookie of the Year campaign, which saw him set NFL records and lead the Texans to an unexpected postseason berth, Stroud’s strategies were obviously effective.

“Big shout out to C.J. Stroud and the prolific year he’s having,” remarked Winston. It’s magic when C.J. Stroud is taking baseball swings on the sidelines. It’s magical to watch C.J. Stroud shoot hoops prior to the game since this one is based on what? Success. You triumph, no one is laughing or making fun of you.”
