Nelly Korda reveals her admiration for Roger Federer and then supports his “new hobby” in five words.

Roger Federer recently sought advice with a simple question: “Any pointers?” Nelly Korda, a professional golfer with a strong tennis background, had an intriguing response. Korda’s father, Petr Korda, won the 1998 Australian Open Tennis Championship, and her mother, Regina Rajchrtova, secured several titles on the ITF circuit. Her brother, Sebastian Korda, is currently ranked 23rd in men’s tennis.

Growing up with these tennis influences, Korda played golf while admiring tennis stars like Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. At the Mizuho Americas Open, she expressed her admiration, saying, “I’ve looked up to great athletes like Nadal and Roger Federer, which is the blend of the two I hope I have.”

Recently, Federer posted a video on Instagram attempting a golf swing, captioned, “Trying to pick up a new hobby. Wish me luck… Any pointers?” This excited Korda, who responded enthusiastically, “Do you need a coach?”

Korda’s excitement is evident as she watches one of her idols, Roger Federer, try his hand at golf, a sport in which she excels. Although the 2024 US Women’s Open didn’t go well for the 25-year-old, her impressive record of 14 LPGA victories and two major wins makes her an excellent candidate to coach Federer. This season alone, she has secured six wins, five of them consecutively. Despite missing the cut at a major tournament, Korda remains upbeat and cheerful, fueled by her latest commitment to perform well in the next major of the season.

The AIG Women’s Open at St. Andrews is highly anticipated, and Nelly Korda recently shared her thoughts on its significance. She believes that winning at St. Andrews would be particularly meaningful, stating, “For a golfer, there’s no greater honor than winning a major championship. There’s no greater feeling. To do it at St. Andrews, to do it at the home of golf—with all that history—would be so, so special.”

Korda’s excitement for the upcoming major is palpable. She revealed, “I’m super excited about how the week will turn out. We’re playing at the home of golf, so I’m expecting it to be an amazing week. There’s so much history at St. Andrews, and I’m excited to be a part of that—to walk out on the Old Course and to compete out there.” Her determination is clear as she aims to secure her third major title at this historic venue.

Korda will be sitting out of the upcoming Shoprite LPGA Classic. Do you think she will manage to stage a successful comeback and possibly coach her idol, Roger Federer, as well? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
