NBA Legend Responds to Kevin Durant’s Controversial Statement About the Warriors

Kevin Durant Injured, Could Miss Remainder of 2023 NBA Regular Season - Blazer's Edge

Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant stated he would be in the conversation for the greatest player of all time if he had never joined the Golden State Warriors in a recent interview with Duane Rankin of Arizona Republic.

In response, Durant told Rankin, “Because I went to the Warriors.” “What makes me not belong in that? That’s the proper question for you to ask. Why not? What have I failed to do?

These remarks were naturally contentious since, despite the fact that Durant is unquestionably an all-time great, most people feel he hasn’t performed enough in his NBA career to be considered for the GOAT.

Legendary player for the Denver Nuggets and New York Knicks Carmelo Anthony was among the NBA players to respond on Durant’s remarks. He stated the following on his 7PM in Brooklyn podcast:

When asked if Durant deserved to be discussed among the greatest of all time, Anthony responded, “Absolutely.” “The GOAT talk bothers me. He will be remembered as possibly the purest scorer this league has ever produced. He scored at level five. He can score points on the court anywhere. He’s victorious… He stands seven feet tall. He altered the rules of the game. How [are] you not going to claim that he isn’t speaking with the greatest of all time?… In terms of ring culture, Bill Russell surpasses Michael Jordan as the greatest of all time. However, some may argue that Michael Jordan is the greatest of all time. Yes, that man is in the GOAT conversation, to answer your question. He is the greatest of all time.”

Anthony offers a complex perspective that merits consideration more frequently. Although the term “GOAT” suggests a single greatest player of all time, Durant and other players who were the best or among the best at a certain position should be included in the discussion, according to Anthony and others.
