The NBA provided clarification on the contentious play involving Steph Curry.

On Thursday night, the Golden State Warriors suffered a 134-133 defeat against the Sacramento Kings. The NBA has now issued its Last Two Minute Report for this game, shedding light on a particularly contentious call in the closing minute.

After Kings guard Kevin Huerter missed a three-pointer with 27 seconds left, the ensuing rebound was contested and ultimately grabbed by Steph Curry, who was deemed out of bounds. Despite Curry being struck in the head by Domantas Sabonis before going out of bounds, possession was awarded to the Kings. This decision sparked controversy due to the apparent foul on Curry.

The NBA conducted a review of the incident and affirmed that the decision not to call a foul on Sabonis was accurate. The league’s statement mentioned, “Sabonis (SAC) follows through after attempting to reach the loose ball, and contact occurs with Curry’s (GSW) head/face. Contact to an opponent’s head/face can be considered marginal when the outcome of a natural basketball move, provided the contact is not disproportionate or uncontrolled.”

On the same play, Kings guard Keegan Murray also had contact with the head/face region of Andrew Wiggins, a situation the NBA categorized as marginal. The league explained, “Murray (SAC) raises both arms up to pursue the rebound and he makes clean contact with the ball prior to marginal contact occurring with Wiggins’ (GSW) face. Contact to an opponent’s head/face can be deemed marginal when the result of a natural basketball move, provided the contact is not disproportionate or uncontrolled.”

Despite the controversy surrounding the play, the NBA asserts that the ruling was accurate.
