MIXED ISSUES: Bride’s three-run home drive and Cabrera’s five scoreless innings help the Miami Marlins defeat the Atlanta Braves 7-0.

With eight strikeouts in five solid innings and a three-run home run from Jonah Bride, the Miami Marlins trounced the Atlanta Braves 7-0 on Sunday to square their four-game series.

In his 11 starts this season, Cabrera (2-3) held a team scoreless for the first time, surrendering just three hits and two walks. The six-hit shutout was completed by three relievers.

Through a translator, Cabrera stated, “My mentality is always to attack the zone and it was working today.” “Every pitch I made was coordinated and cohesive.”

Emmanuel Rivera had a walk, a run, and a steal while going 2 for 4. Additionally, Xavier Edwards went 2 for 5 with a run and an RBI, extending his streak of games at bat to 21.

The Braves’ All-Star lefty Max Fried (7–6) had a difficult comeback from the disabled list. In 3 1/3 innings, he gave up five runs and four hits while striking out six and walking a season-high five batters. Fried hadn’t started since July 11 of last year.

Prior to his one-inning All-Star Game debut on July 16, he experienced discomfort in his forearm; on July 21, he was placed on the injured list.

First inning pitching is done by Max Fried.
The last-place Marlins, who made a huge transaction at the deadline on July 30, are now 3-2. They had not been shut out since May 24 and this was their sixth shutout of the season.

Manager Skip Schumaker remarked, “A lot of these guys, including myself, are meeting each other for the first time.” It simply goes to show what kind of leadership exists in that clubhouse that they are willing to put up this kind of effort after that difficult day in Tampa Bay. Our staff’s ability to keep everything together makes me proud.

Sean Murphy, the Braves’ catcher, reached base three times on two walks and a single. Austin Riley also had three hits for the team.

There are still many games to be played, and we’re only 5 1/2 back in the NL East. Before now and after it ends, a lot may happen, according to Atlanta manager Brian Snitker. “There’s a lot of time to do a lot of good, but today was ugly.”
