Spokane Chiefs head coach Ryan Smith is fired.

The Chiefs have fired Ryan Smith and decided not to extend Assistant Coach Dustin Donaghy’s contract through the 2024–25 campaign.

Ryan Smith, the head coach of the Spokane Chiefs, was sacked, the team confirmed on Wednesday.

After taking over as the Chiefs’ temporary head coach in February of the 2021–2022 season, Smith led the team for two complete seasons. For Spokane, Smith served as the head coach for 126 games during the regular season and eight during the playoffs.

“It was a difficult decision to part ways with Ryan,” Chiefs General Manager Matt Bardsley stated in a press release. “We felt it was necessary to move in a different direction,” Bardsley continued. “He is a quality person who has been instrumental in laying the foundation for us to have success while building a strong culture.” We extend our gratitude to Ryan and his family for their contributions to the Spokane Chiefs organisation and wish them continued success.

According to the organisation, the hiring process for a new head coach will start right now.
