Prior to this Saturday’s Premier League matchup between Crystal Palace and Brighton at the Amex Stadium, the team has once again expanded.

With a potential transfer cost of £22 million, Roy Hodgson’s team, now 14th in the Premier League and eight points behind eighth-place Brighton, has acquired Adam Wharton, a midfielder for Blackburn Rovers.

The 19-year-old Wharton, who made 51 appearances for Blackburn, was thrilled to sign a five-and-a-half-year contract with Crystal Palace. “I’ve always wanted to play in the Premier League and to play for such a big club like Crystal Palace is a great honour,” Wharton said.

“The way they’ve brought players from the Championship and developed them into world-class players in the Premier League is something that stood out to me, and it’s a big reason why I wanted to come here.”

Wharton’s acquisition complements the £6.8 million purchase of full-back Daniel Munoz from Genk.

“I’m delighted that Adam, a player whose rapid development we have closely followed, has decided to join us at Crystal Palace,” Chairman Steve Parish continued.

“Adam’s remarkable performances for Blackburn at such a young age have naturally attracted the attention of other clubs.

However, as has frequently been the case in recent years, we think Palace is the ideal location to realise his undeniable potential, and we look forward to collaborating with him to do so in the years to come.
