This weekend, QPR is set to face Bristol City, and Martí Cifuentes is urging his players to recapture the momentum they had before Wednesday night’s defeat against Stoke City, as they strive to secure their Championship status. The R’s had managed two wins and two draws in their last four matches leading up to the loss at the bet365 Stadium. Although Cifuentes acknowledges the setback of the 1-0 defeat in Staffordshire, he remains optimistic, understanding that the season still holds many twists and turns.

“Since my arrival, we have maintained stability in terms of accumulating points,” remarked Cifuentes.

“Although we couldn’t secure a win at Stoke, it doesn’t signify the end. It’s a significant setback as we missed a great opportunity to gain points against a direct rival. Now, my focus is on regaining momentum and responding with an improved performance.”

The R’s currently find themselves trailing by four points for safety with 14 fixtures remaining, and Cifuentes acknowledged, “Every week will be a crucial game for us and a significant opportunity.”

Despite positive performances against Blackburn and Norwich, adding four more points to their tally, Cifuentes expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s performance against Stoke. Following a thorough analysis of the match, he admitted, “We’re all very disappointed with the performance. We simply didn’t meet the required standard.”

“It was a crucial game, and we fell short of our expected level. We had high expectations, and unfortunately, we didn’t achieve our goals. The players are upset and disappointed, showing their commitment to the club and supporters. While it’s essential to feel the sadness and anger, we must not lose sight of the positive aspects of our recent weeks’ performances.”

With no time to dwell on disappointment, the focus now shifts to improvement. Cifuentes emphasized the desire to bounce back against Bristol City and ensure that the last performance was just an aberration.

Liam Manning’s Bristol City has secured consecutive wins with impressive victories over Middlesbrough and Southampton, placing them four points outside the playoffs before the upcoming weekend fixtures. Cifuentes acknowledged the positive performance of Manning’s team and recognized their similar records since taking charge at their respective clubs.

“We are facing a team that is in good form,” said Cifuentes. “Since the change in manager, they have been performing well. We are aware of the style of play they will aim for.”

Looking ahead to the third match in a week, Cifuentes confirmed, “Everyone is physically okay after Wednesday and available for this game.”
