Kentucky’s NIL project has been booming since Mark Pope’s hire.

For the past three months, the Kentucky Wildcats men’s basketball programme has faced numerous challenges.

From being one of the most electrifying teams in the country to losing in the first round and then losing their long-time head coach, there were a lot of unknowns for the programme going forward. However, this is starting to change as more structure is added. Mitch Barnhart and his team were able to sign former UK great Mark Pope, who has already brought in a number of high-profile transfers. According to KSR’s Matt Jones, the team’s NIL programme has been a huge success, with $650,000 in annual commitments from the general audience to Club Blue.

Kyle Tucker of The Athletic reports that the figure is now closer to $700,000. Private contributors and public support will help Kentucky remain competitive in a collegiate athletics landscape that has become increasingly similar to the professional ranks in terms of player compensation.

Pope, who attended BYU last year, deserves all the assistance he can get, and with this level of cash, they might continue to attract high-profile recruits. Hopefully, this kind of support will continue during the Mark Pope era in Lexington.
