Kenny Pickett’s resignation from the Pittsburgh Steelers has not been met with universal criticism.
Before the Pittsburgh Steelers ever faced up against the recently signed veteran Russell Wilson, they let go of former first-round selection Kenny Pickett. Pickett was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles immediately after the team determined it was best to deal him after his alleged bad attitude towards the situation became sour. The media’s reaction was largely negative, criticising Pickett’s attitude and responding to the claim that he didn’t deserve to be in the quarterback battle this offseason.
One brand has adopted an alternative strategy. In a CBS Sports interview, former All-Pro J.J. Watt stated that while he understands the decision to move Pickett, he can see where the player is coming from. “He must be irritated. He probably believes that he was never given the chance to fully realise his ability and advance, which is something that happens in this league. Because our world is so win-now, we are not allowing guys the opportunity to mature, evolve, overcome adversity, and emerge stronger from it.
Thus, I don’t blame him in the slightest for seeking a chance to compete or explore new things,” Watt remarked. “I understand when you bring in a player and say he’s the starter right now, but you don’t even get a chance. I get his point of view entirely. However, I don’t hold the Steelers responsible in any way. You have to seize the chance when it arises—a minimum deal for a player who has won a Super Bowl.”
Watt is supportive of Wilson’s signing, nevertheless. He declared, “I adore it.” “They are aware that Pittsburgh presents an opportunity. They are aware that they must take action in order to attempt taking the final step and making the leap. They are essentially telling their support base, “We’re going all in to try and win.” We wish to be Super Bowl winners. Here, that is what we do. They have probably heard the stories of teams having winning seasons but failing to advance past the opening round of the playoffs. They’re saying to their followers, “Okay, let’s go ahead and do it.”
The Steelers traded for Justin Fields, who is not expected to challenge Wilson, after letting go of Pickett. With Fields expected to grow behind him and be able to advance in the future, the offence in 2024 will be led by the former Super Bowl champion.
