Hamilton Tiger-Cats key player on why he wants to quit

Hamilton Tiger-Cats move LB Jordan Williams to the retired list.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats officially retired linebacker Jordan Williams on Wednesday, as reported by the CFL Transactions page. Williams, who hails from Fayetteville, North Carolina, stands at six feet tall and weighs 232 pounds. The 29-year-old was acquired by the Tiger-Cats from the Toronto Argonauts on January 29, 2024, along with several draft picks, in exchange for wide receiver Deontay Burnett’s rights.

During his time with the Argonauts in 2023, Williams showcased his skills by making 48 tackles in 14 games, including four tackles on special teams. He was initially acquired by the Argonauts from the BC Lions on February 9, 2023. Williams had an impressive run with the Lions in 2022, recording 89 tackles, seven special teams tackles, and three forced fumbles in 18 games.

Williams was drafted by the Lions in the first round (1st pick) of the 2020 CFL Draft. In his rookie season, he made a significant impact, tallying 92 tackles, five special teams tackles, one sack, and one interception in 14 games. His outstanding performance earned him both the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie Award and the Jackie Parker Trophy in 2021.

Before his professional career, Williams played college football at East Carolina University from 2014 to 2017. During his time with the Pirates, he accumulated 252 tackles (123 solo, 129 assists), 13 tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery in 45 games.

Williams’ retirement marks the end of a successful football career, highlighted by his contributions to multiple teams in the CFL. His achievements on the field, both in college and professionally, have solidified his legacy as a talented and dedicated linebacker.
