The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have re-signed their primary pass rusher, defensive lineman Casey Sayles.

In recent days, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have been actively reinforcing their defense, focusing on a crucial re-signing. According to Justin Dunk of 3DownNation, defensive lineman Casey Sayles has agreed to a two-year contract extension with Hamilton, extending his tenure with the team through the 2025 season.

Sayles’ return follows his most successful CFL season to date. The 28-year-old defensive lineman achieved career highs in both tackles (50) and sacks (seven) in 2023, earning his first CFL All-Star recognition. Sayles previously played two seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, accumulating 64 tackles and 11 sacks across 32 games.

From 2017 to 2020, Sayles competed in three different football leagues, including the NFL, AAF, and XFL. He garnered notable playing time with the St. Louis Battlehawks in the XFL in 2020, concluding his five-game stint with 12 tackles and one sack. During his tenure with the Birmingham Iron in the AAF, he contributed 16 tackles and one sack across eight games. Sayles also had stints in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Hamilton has been active in bolstering their defensive line in free agency, acquiring Dewayne Hendrix and Brandon Barlow. Additionally, the Tiger-Cats have added defensive back Jamal Peters as they aim for a Grey Cup contention in 2024.

Sayles is eligible to sign now as he was part of the team last year. Free agents from outside their 2023 teams can officially ink deals starting February 13th.
