After improving his total sack numbers year after year since entering the CFL, Sayles agreed to a contract extension that keeps him in Hamilton through the 2025 season, the team announced.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have decided to re-sign defensive lineman Casey Sayles, their premier player in generating pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

During the recent week, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have shown assertiveness in strengthening their defense, prioritizing an internal signing deemed crucial.

According to Justin Dunk of 3DownNation, defensive lineman Casey Sayles has inked a two-year contract extension with the Tiger-Cats, ensuring his presence until the 2025 season.

Sayles returns following a standout season in his CFL tenure. At 28 years old, the defensive lineman enjoyed a career peak in 2023, recording personal bests in both tackles (50) and sacks (seven), which led to his inaugural CFL All-Star nod. Previously, Sayles spent two seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, amassing 64 tackles and 11 sacks across 32 games.

Between 2017 and 2020, Sayles showcased his football prowess across three different leagues, namely the NFL, AAF, and XFL. Notably, he garnered considerable playing time with the St. Louis Battlehawks in the XFL during 2020, tallying 12 tackles and one sack over five games. His stint with the Birmingham Iron in the AAF saw him contribute 16 tackles and one sack across eight games. Additionally, Sayles had brief spells in the NFL with both the Los Angeles Rams and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Hamilton has been proactive in bolstering their defensive lineup in free agency, securing talents like Dewayne Hendrix and Brandon Barlow. Additionally, they’ve added defensive back Jamal Peters, signaling their intent for a strong run at the Grey Cup in 2024.

Since Sayles was part of the team last year, he retains the ability to sign immediately. Free agents not affiliated with their 2023 teams can formally sign starting from February 13th.
