Great News: “A Key player from the Spokane Chiefs named as a finalist for two prestigious WHL awards.”

Spokane Chiefs forward Berkly Catton has been selected as the U.S. Division nominee for two prestigious Western Hockey League awards, as announced by the team earlier this month.

Catton, a former first-round pick in the WHL Prospects Draft, had a standout season, scoring a career-high 54 goals and assisting on 62 others for a total of 116 points in 68 games. At just 18 years old, he was one of only three WHL players to exceed the 100-point mark and one of five to score 50 or more goals.

The Four Broncos Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the WHL’s player of the year, counts previous winners such as Chicago Blackhawks forward Connor Bedard (Regina), Dallas Stars forward Logan Stankoven (Kamloops), and Buffalo Sabres forward Peyton Krebs (Winnipeg) among its recipients.

Catton was also nominated for the Daryl K. Seaman Memorial Trophy, presented to the WHL’s scholastic player of the year. He maintained an impressive 85% overall average over the last two academic years.

All individual WHL Division award winners, including Catton, will be in the running for the 2024 WHL Awards, which will be announced from April 30 to May 9.
