Good news on Riley McGree, as Michael Carrick updates Middlesbrough’s injuries.

Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick gives his verdict on 'dangerous' Stoke City - Stoke-on-Trent Live

Michael Carrick provides an injury update ahead of Middlesbrough’s trip to Swansea City.

In what seems to be a rare good injury report, Michael Carrick has stated that Riley McGree will not be far behind Hayden Hackney when he returns for Middlesbrough.

Due to a string of unfortunate injuries, Boro was forced to play without eight first-team players during their midweek loss at Hull City. As a result, just two of Carrick’s nine replacements were older than 25, meaning the Boro manager will now need to rely on the Boro academy to support his matchday squads.

Carrick gave an update on Marcus Forss’s thigh and some good news on top player McGree (Plantar fasciitis) as the hectic holiday season approaches. However, Boro has lost four of their past five games due to injury.

“Riley is a little bit further on and is going to start training with us pretty soon,” stated the Boro manager. However, we also recognise that he has been absent for a while. It’s about striking the ideal balance. Marcus lags somewhat more behind. Compared to Riley, he will be somewhat longer.

“Obviously, we would all like to return as quickly as possible, but we also need to consider that the season is longer than we would like. We wish to see them again, but only when they are prepared to return in order to possibly avoid any negative consequences.

“Thus, even while we’re doing every effort to win them back, we must maintain objectivity and reason in our thinking. We’ll just have to wait and see, but I’m hoping we’ll receive one or two back in the next week or two.

After missing out on a bench spot in Wednesday night’s loss, Josh Coburn became the most recent player to be put to the injured list. Carrick continued, saying, “Josh has been feeling it for a little bit over a period of time.”

This is another one where we have a responsibility with a younger player who has much football experience. We need to take care of him and exercise caution. He’s experienced a minor problem with his pelvis and groyne. Thus, we must handle that and ideally bring him back quickly.”

The players go to South Wales on Friday, thus Carrick was speaking at his pre-match news conference on Thursday afternoon before of Saturday’s trip to Swansea City. Having only played the night before, it was a swift turnaround, with Thursday’s training session focusing more on recuperation.

Carrick responded, “It seems like it,” when asked if the players fared well. “Though it’s still early and fresh, there’s nothing significant to report, which is encouraging. The more fit we are, the better. Considering, the boys are doing OK.

“We feel that we accomplished our goals for the most part of the Hull game, which is why we’re optimistic in many respects. We thus learn a lot from that. The lads needed to put in a lot of effort and give it their all because it was a physically demanding game. Of course, it is a recuperation day to get ready for the weekend.”

Despite the likelihood that Boro will play Swansea with the same team that they have used in their last two games—losses to Ipswich and Hull City—the manager of the club is still optimistic and has faith in the players he has at his disposal.
