Good Deal: Dragons officially confirms deal for international hooker

Shane Flanagan has turned to the open market and hired a New Zealand and Samoan international representative, effective immediately. Flanagan has previously stated that he hopes to add another hooker or half to the St George Illawarra Dragons roster due to a lack of depth in those positions. Kyle Flanagan, Ben Hunt, and Jesse Marschke are their only half players right now, and they only have two hooker possibilities in Jacob Liddle and Connor Muhleisen, so if they suffered multiple injuries, they would have very little support.

However, they have subsequently turned to the open market, with the Dragons signing Fa’amanu Brown for the rest of the season, who will start immediately. The club has also announced that his contract would contain a club option for the 2025 NRL season. “It’s fantastic to be able to sign a player of Nu’s calibre at this stage of the season,” said Dragons coach Shane Flanagan.

“I worked with Nu at the Sharks for several years and was consistently impressed by his work ethic and versatility. “He can play hooker, in the halves or in the forwards if required and will add plenty of value and experience to our squad for at least the rest of this season.” His entry at the club comes after being granted an immediate release from Hull FC in the Super League for personal reasons, and he has since returned to Australia. Brown can play in the halves or as a hooker, and once his services are confirmed, he will most likely be slotted straight into the starting 17.

He began his career with the Cronulla Sharks in 2014 and has since played for the Canterbury Bulldogs, Wests Tigers, and most recently the Newcastle Knights, totaling 56 NRL games. His career also included eight appearances for Samoa and three games for the New Zealand Kiwis in the recent Pacific Championships, which they won by defeating Australia in the final.
