News Now: The Friendly fire that sparks Curtin’s spirit of rivalry.

How did your club fare at the AFL draft? Every pick for every team analysed - ABC NewsThe Crows selected Daniel Curtin at the 2023 AFL National Draft

Daniel Curtin, an Adelaide draftee, claims that growing up the older of two brothers of similar age, he acquired a competitive spirit early on.

Curtin believes that he may attribute that to his younger brother Cody.

The two, who are two years apart, played basketball or football together for many hours growing up, and Curtin’s constant drive to improve is what made him a top-10 draught pick.

The Crows’ recruitment staff was so impressed by Curtin’s competitive spirit, speed, agility, and footwork that they decided to make a risky deal with GWS on Tuesday night at the AFL National Draught in order to get the young defender.

After being chosen by the Crows, Curtin spoke with AFC Media on Thursday and revealed that having a younger brother had fueled his competitive spirit.

“We are really close, me and my 16-year-old brother Cody,” Curtin added.

We have a healthy sense of competition, which is enjoyable.

“I believe that our rivalry has greatly benefited my football.”

“He has been a major source of motivation for my desire to be competitive and give my all in everything I do, even if it’s just a little basketball at the park.”

The Giants had Pick No. 8 in the Monday night draught, and they had to agree to a risky deal with the Crows.

Adelaide received Pick Nos. 8 and 17 in return for Pick Nos. 11, 15, and a potential second-round pick.

Curtin was then chosen by the Crows using Pick No. 8.

Curtin commented, “It doesn’t feel completely real, but it’s been pretty cool.”

“It was an odd feeling; it felt very strange, almost like I was in a 2K NBA game.”

Curtin said he is eager to begin working out with his new colleagues.

Curtin said, “I’m really happy because I’m finally here to play AFL, which was my dream.”

“I’m already feeling incredibly welcomed—I’ve gotten a number of messages from my new coworkers and a few social media exchanges.

“I’m really diligent, orderly, and upbeat individual, and I’ll just be trying my best.”

“I can’t wait to travel to Adelaide, meet everyone, and begin the preseason.”
