The Baltimore Orioles have received unfortunate news regarding starting pitcher Kyle Bradish, who has suffered a UCL sprain and may need Tommy John Surgery. While there is a possibility of avoiding surgery, the outlook is not optimistic. This setback could prompt Baltimore to seek a replacement arm. The Miami Marlins have been in discussions with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and it appears that talks with Baltimore could be on the horizon.

In a fictitious trade with the Baltimore Orioles, the Miami Marlins may obtain an SS.

The Miami Marlins have been actively seeking help at shortstop throughout the offseason. Baltimore has a surplus of young infielders, including Coby Mayo, a top third base prospect who could potentially transition to shortstop. They also have Jordan Westburg at third base and Gunnar Henderson at shortstop, although Henderson is likely not available for trade. If Henderson and another top shortstop prospect, Jackson Holliday, are off the table, a trade involving Mayo or Westburg could be feasible.

In light of Kyle Bradish’s potential Tommy John Surgery (TJS), Baltimore will likely seek more stability in their rotation. Their new ace, Corbin Burnes, is set to become a free agent after the upcoming season, which could be financially challenging for Baltimore to retain him. While new ownership could change this scenario, Burnes could also opt to sign with another team. If Burnes departs and Bradish is sidelined, it would significantly weaken Baltimore’s rotation.

Additionally, Baltimore faces the issue of converting their infield logjam into more valuable assets. They could be interested in acquiring starting pitcher Edward Cabrera from Miami, who possesses excellent strikeout potential but struggles with control. Improving his mechanics could elevate his performance, a prospect that both Baltimore and Cabrera may find appealing.

There are reports indicating Baltimore’s interest in Jesus Luzardo, which could require them to part with a valuable player. In this case, Jackson Holliday might be the target for the Marlins. However, it remains to be seen if the two sides can reach an agreement on a trade.
